With great concern, we follow the news according which Brazil, Peru and Colombia will include US troops in a joint military exercise in the Amazon border region, in November. It is symptomatic that this invitation for US participation was made by Brazil, according to the domestic media, where the population lives in post-coup d'etat, under reactionary policies subservient to the empire and promoted by an illegitimate government.

The WPC is expressing its serious concerns about the accelerating offensive of the Israeli occupation regime in Palestine, with the continuation of the settlements in the West Bank, the arrests and harassments of Palestinians, even of children and the rhetoric and efforts for the judaization of Israel, along with the impasse of the negotiations for a solution in the Palestinian problem because of the Israeli side, which is receiving full backing from the USA and the EU.

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation, member of the Preparatory Committee of the Popular Celebrations of the 25th of April revolution in several Portuguese cities, participated in demonstrations throughout the country last April 25th.

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) alerts to the gravity of the situation in the Korean Peninsula, following the reinforcement of the US presence and the intensification of its military pressure against the Democratic Popular Republic of Korea (DPRK), and to the unpredictable and dramatic consequences of a military escalation in this region.

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) marked April 17th, International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Prisoners in Israeli Jails, with the release of the statement bellow. In this occasion CPPC reiterates, once again, its solidarity towards the Palestinian people and its just cause, and salutes the sister organization Palestinian Committee for Peace and Solidarity.

Global Day of Action in solidarity with the people of Venezuela

Joining in the celebration of April 19th, the World Action Day in Solidarity with Venezuela, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) salutes the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan people, and in particular our sister organization the Committee of International Solidarity from Venezuela (COSI).

In this occasion we divulge the position bellow cosigned by a number of Portuguese organizations in “Solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan People”, that will be presented today in a public meeting to the Venezuelan Embassy in Portugal.

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) strongly condemns the US bombing of Syria, today at dawn, denouncing its illegal character and totally contrary to international law. The direct US military aggression against this sovereign State, which follows six years of covert war, constitutes an intolerable escalation with consequences still difficult to foresee, given the high military tension that exists in this martyred country of the Middle East.

In the framework of activities against NATO leading up to NATO’s summit in Brussels the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation held a public seminar under the banner “Yes to Peace! No to NATO!” on April 1st in Lisbon, when the 68 years of this political-military block were being marked.
The initiative, that denounced NATO’s nature and objectives and stressed the need for NATO’s dissolution, had the participation of several Portuguese and of the Forum against War from Italy and INTAL from Belgium, country where next NATO’s summit will take place.
