Joining in the celebration of April 19th, the World Action Day in Solidarity with Venezuela, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) salutes the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan people, and in particular our sister organization the Committee of International Solidarity from Venezuela (COSI).

In this occasion we divulge the position bellow cosigned by a number of Portuguese organizations in “Solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan People”, that will be presented today in a public meeting to the Venezuelan Embassy in Portugal.

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) strongly condemns the US bombing of Syria, today at dawn, denouncing its illegal character and totally contrary to international law. The direct US military aggression against this sovereign State, which follows six years of covert war, constitutes an intolerable escalation with consequences still difficult to foresee, given the high military tension that exists in this martyred country of the Middle East.

In the framework of activities against NATO leading up to NATO’s summit in Brussels the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation held a public seminar under the banner “Yes to Peace! No to NATO!” on April 1st in Lisbon, when the 68 years of this political-military block were being marked.
The initiative, that denounced NATO’s nature and objectives and stressed the need for NATO’s dissolution, had the participation of several Portuguese and of the Forum against War from Italy and INTAL from Belgium, country where next NATO’s summit will take place.

It was a magnificent Concert for Peace that completely filled the Rivoli Theatre in Oporto, last January. Promoted by the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC), it had the support of the Oporto Town Hall and the committed participation of several organizations and around 200 artists, from all ages.

In the hall of the theatre was an exhibition of poetry for peace from students of several Oporto schools.

Faced with the continuation on January 23rd, in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco of the trial of Sahrawi human rights activists, detained by the Moroccan authorities and already previously illegally prosecuted in a military tribunal on February 2013 and sentenced from 20 years to life imprisonment, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation promotes among the Portuguese organizations the subscription of the text “For the freedom of the Sahrawi political prisoners held in Morocco”.

End to the encroachment and aggression

For the respect of Syria's sovereignty and independence

For more than five years Syria and its people have faced a cruel aggression, resulting from foreign encroachment and the terror action of mercenary groups, financed, trained and armed by the US, France, the UK, Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar among other countries. A war of aggression that caused hundreds of thousands of dead and wounded, millions of displaced and refugees, the destruction of a country, with all that means for the life of workers and the people in general.

Considering what a nuclear war would represent, global nuclear disarmament is a central issue in the defense of peace, for the survival of the human species and the maintenance of life on Earth as we know it today.

The presence of nuclear weapons in the arsenals of some countries is a threat upon each one of us, upon peoples, upon all living beings on the planet. Such a threat never existed until the advent of the military use of nuclear energy.

Given the authentic institutional coup against the Brazilian People, with the destitution of Dilma Rousseff, elected president with 54 million votes by Brazilian citizens, and driven from the Presidency by 61 votes by senators with no judicially valid justification, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) manifests its solidarity with Dilma Rousseff, the Brazilian people, with CEBRAPAZ and all the progressive Brazilian forces that continue to defend democracy, justice and social progress.
