The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) marked the 40th anniversary since it legal constitution, formalized in April 1976, with a number of initiatives, including the publication of a book from which we reproduce excerpts from its preface and introduction.

The present relevance of the struggle for peace
At the World Peace Council (WPC) Assembly held in Brazil in November 2016 the various Caribbean Peace Organizations that were in attendance and the WPC’s regional coordinator for the Americas and the Caribbean -the Cuban Movement for Peace and People´s Sovereignty (MovPaz)- called for the holding of the First Caribbean Peace Conference in Barbados in the year of 2017.
The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) organized an action in solidarity with the people of Venezuela on July 5th, day of the 206th anniversary of the Venezuelan Independence.
The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation, continuing the long standing campaign against NATO in Portugal, carried out a number of initiatives alongside other Portuguese organizations, giving these year focus on the holding of NATO’s summit in Brussels and its objectives.
Anti-imperialist and anti-NATO rally and march was held by EEDYE in the city of Chania/Crete, followed by a militant mass protest and march towards the US/NATO air base of Souda on Sunday 28th May 2017.

“We strengthen the anti-imperialist struggle”
The WPC European region member organizations held a meeting warmly and affectionately hosted by the German Peace Council that gathered the conditions for the good functioning of the meeting.
The first Regional meeting of the region of Europe will be held in Berlin on 29th and 30th April, hosted by the German Peace Council. The Meeting will be chaired by the Regional Coordinator Ilda Figuereido from Portugal and attended as well by the General Secretary of the WPC, Thanassis Pafilis and the Executive Secretary Iraklis Tsavdaridis.
