Rising tensions in the global relations and hot beds of old and new crisis call for unity and efforts of all peace forces for closing foreign military bases, particularly U.S. and NATO foreign military bases, around the globe. The peace forces are obligated to send clear message that U.S. and NATO foreign military bases represent the tools of hegemonism, aggression, occupation, and that as such must be closed.

The Peace Committee of Turkey, the Greek Committee for International Détente and Peace, and the Cyprus Peace Council successfully held their 8th trilateral meeting on 15-17th December 2017, in İzmir, Turkey under the auspices of the World Peace Council.

Israel’s intervention in the ongoing tensions in the Middle East has intensified again recently. Frequent bombings of Syria, the attempts to escalate the tension with Iran and similar interferences have come to the fore more often.

The U.S. President Donald Trump’s declaration to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is in parallel with such developments.

Recently, the President of the USA, Donald Trump announced that the embassy of the USA in Tel Aviv, Israel will be moved to Jerusalem recognizing it as the capital of Israel. As predictable, this has created outrage in the whole world especially in Middle East. We condemn the US President’s move as it drags the Middle East region’s peace to a more vulnerable state.

The Palestinian Committee for Peace and Solidarity (PCPS) salutes all peace loving people all over the world for their position of solidarity with the Palestinian people and their condemnation of US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as “capital of Israel” which constitutes a violation of International law and all relevant UN resolutions about Jerusalem which consider Jerusalem as part of occupied the Palestinian land and its eastern part and as a capital of future Palestinian state.

The developments in the Middle East over recent months have taken a sharp turn towards militarisation and outright conflict - and even the start of a new war in the region due to the meddling of the US, Saudi and Israeli governments in fanning the flames in the region.

The US President Donald Trump’s announcement recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the Zionist Israeli State, and the decision of establishing in this city the US Embassy in Israel, are affronts to international law, a violation of the United Nations resolutions, and an abject offense to the Palestinian people’s dignity, honor and rights. They constitute another obstacle for the realization of the Palestinian national cause and are a provocation of war.

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) firmly condemns the US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the announced intention to transfer the US embassy to this city, a decision that entails an authentic act of aggression upon the Palestinian people, with unpredictable and dangerous consequences for peace in the whole region.
