U.S. Peace Council — January 26, 2019

Once again, the bloody hand of US imperialism is reaching out into Venezuela to complete the failed job of regime change that it started in 2002 against President Hugo Chavez. There is no doubt that another US-led coup is underway to topple the democratically elected government of President Maduro in the hope of putting an end to the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela.

Recently the US Peace Council delegation visited Syria. They spent six intense days in Syria at the end of July 2016. During this time they met with President Bashar Al Assad, the Grand Mufti Hassoun, many opposition leaders and dissidents, parliamentary speakers and members, Syrian NGOs, education ministers, university directors, health sector officials, lawyers, Chamber of Commerce and many more.

Around 150 people protested outside of an Army recruiting center in Times Square in New York City as NATO met on July 9th in Warsaw, Poland.

Speakers included some of the people on the No to NATO list including Al Marder of the US Peace Council, Bruce Gagnon of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space and myself, Joe Lombardo of the United National Antiwar Coalition. Other organizations that supported the action included Code Pink, Veterans for Peace, New Jersey and New York Peace Action, Black Agenda Report, BAYAN and several others.

The drive by a nuclear-armed NATO to the borders of Russia — a nuclear-armed state — poses at the very least the risk of accidental nuclear war, and at worst the possibility of military confrontation between two nuclear powers.
