The World Peace Council (WPC) is in grief about the loss of our comrade Fanis Christodoulou, General Secretary of the Cyprus Peace Council on 6th February 2020 at the age of 67.
Comrade Fanis, an outstanding son of the working class of Cyprus, longstanding leadership member of AKEL and committed anti-imperialist peace fighter has championed all his life in the struggle for the benefit of the Cypriot people, for the re-unification of his divided fatherland and the struggle of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots for the end of the occupation of the island.

«Mike Pompeo and Benjamin Netanyahu are not welcome to Portugal» was, more than the motto, the outcry that emerged from the public action carried out at the end of the afternoon, December 6, at Largo Camões, noble space of Lisbon, already well known for the initiatives in defence of peace that regularly take place there.

The World Peace Council denounces in the strongest way the recent
criminal attack of the US against a sovereign country-Iraq during which
the Commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' Quds, was assassinated
along with high rank officers of the army of Iraq.
This unprovoked and reckless action constitutes a new and extremely
dangerous escalation for the Middle East, where the USA maintain
thousands of troops being involved since decades in aggressions and
imperialist interventions in a number of countries.

On January 2, 2020, the Trump Administration recklessly escalated its war on Iran by the drone assassination of Iran’s top general, Qassem Soleimani, Commander of Iran Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force. The assassination, ordered directly by President Trump, is a lawless action against an official of a sovereign state — Iran — with which the US is not officially at war. It occurred on the territory of yet another sovereign state — Iraq — with which the US is not officially at war.

With the call of The National Memorandum Government of Libya, the bill that enables military aid to this country passed through the Turkish Grand National Assembly. This bill shows AKP's eagerness to embark on new adventures of war.
The AKP government had been a part of the imperialist aggression against Syria that began in 2011; and now it is seeking new adventures to revive these washed-out policies after the failure of the Neo-Ottomanist policies in this country.
