End aggression and occupation in Palestine! - Solidarity actions with the Palestinian people throughout Portugal

Saturday, June 26, 2021

In response to the appeal made by the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) together with the Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and for Peace in the Middle East (MPPM) and the General Confederation of the Portuguese Workers (CGTP-IN), thousands of people took into the streets to give voice to the Solidarity with the Palestinian people and to demand an end to Israel's crimes, to the massacres, the oppression, the humiliations – in a word, an end to the occupation.

The appeal was launched for the participation in the solidarity demonstrations of May 17 in Lisbon and Porto and quickly spread across the country, with the CPPC organizing acts of solidarity throughout seven cities and involving more than a dozen organizations. The solidarity actions were held in Lisbon, Porto and Évora on the 17 of May, on 22 of May in Faro, on 24 of May in Viseu and Braga and on the 25 of May a car Caravan was held across the streets of Coimbra.

End aggression and occupation in Palestine!

• It is urgent to stop the aggression against the Palestinian people!

• It is urgent to put an end to the Israeli bombings of Gaza which have already caused dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries – many of them children!

• It is urgent to put an end to the expulsion of Palestinians from their homes and lands, to the settlements and occupation!

• It is urgent to prevent the State policy of terrorism that seeks to derail the creation of the State of Palestine!

• It is urgent to put an end to Israel's impunity, its crimes, its repeated violations of International Law!

The Palestinian people have been waiting for decades for the promised creation of a Palestinian State.

The Israeli occupation has been going on for decades, with more settlements, more annexations, more expulsions, more violence and war.

The Israeli occupation has subjected for decades Palestinian workers to discrimination and arbitrary wages and rights, denying the right to work, spreading poverty, and is a source of brutal exploitation.

The promises and Resolutions of the United Nations have gone unfulfilled for decades.

What is happening in Palestine is not a conflict, it is a violent occupation, illegal and an attack on the human rights and national rights of the Palestinian people.

We demand that the Portuguese Government abandon its shocking position of putting on an equal footing the aggressor and the victim, the oppressor and the oppressed, to condemn Israel for its crimes and its occupation policy and to speak out for the protection of the Palestinian people and their right to their independent, sovereign and viable state!

It is time to say Enough!

Let us go out into the streets, on Monday May 17, in Lisbon and Porto, to give voice to our Solidarity with the Palestinian people and demand an end to Israel's crimes!

• É urgente travar a agressão contra o povo palestiniano!
