World Peace Council European member organizations have held a meeting in Basel, Switzerland on the 21 and 22 September.
The meeting, hosted by Swiss Peace Movement and presided by the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation, as WPC regional coordinator, started on the International Day of Peace, and also at the date of the 70th anniversary of the Swiss Peace Movement.
On 21 September, International Day of Peace, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) calls for commitment and mobilization in defense of the principles embodied in the United Nations Charter and the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, such as sovereignty and the rights of peoples, the sovereign equality of states, the peaceful and negotiated settlement of international conflicts, the non-use of force or the threat of the use of force in international relations, the general simultaneous and controlled disarmament.
At the 80th anniversary of the beginning of World War II, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation recalls the brutal consequences of what was the most violent and bloody military conflict in history, triggered by Nazi Germany, fascist Italy and militaristic Japan, responsible for the loss of more than 50 million lives and tens of millions of injured.
Democratic forces have already spoken out against the attempts of countries party to the infamous Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR) to trigger this instrument against Bolivarian Venezuela. On Wednesday (11) the proposal was presented by Colombia and supported by the representation of Brazil and other countries governed by forces subservient to the US, within the Organization of American States (OAS).

Na quarta-feira (11) a proposta foi apresentada pela Colômbia e apoiada pela representação do Brasil e demais países governados por forças servis aos EUA, no seio da Organização de Estados Americanos (OEA). O tema deve ser discutido pelos chanceleres para a adoção de uma medida e as forças da paz mobilizam-se para deter os planos evidentes de intervenção na Venezuela.

The World Peace Council (WPC) denounces strongly the recent decision of a group of States within the “Organisation of American States (OAS)” to activate the Inter-American Reciprocal Assistance Treaty (TIAR) about Venezuela, as an instrument of interference in the sovereign affairs of countries since many decades.
It is with concern that the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) is following the path that the European Union (EU) has been treading in order to create conditions to criminalise solidarity with the Palestinian cause, while turning a blind eye on the illegalities and crimes of the Israeli regime against the Palestinian people.
