The Cyprus Peace Council (CPC) denounces the coup d’état against the democratically elected government of Evo Morales in Bolivia. The coup against President Evo Morales is being executed by the US-led conservative opposition and far-right in collaboration with sections of the police and army.

Latin America counts yet another coup d'état, instigated and backed by American Imperialism in alliance with the Bolivarian oligarchy and the Organization of American States as its willing servants. The role of the army and police is reminiscent of old times of coups throughout Latin America, when every time a democratically elected representative of the people, and not the puppet of the Americans, was followed by a coup d’état. Orchestrated demonstrations in the capital La Paz and fascist attacks on institutions and forces that resist American imperialism and are struggling for social justice and sovereignty, as well as attacks on the Embassies of Venezuela, Cuba and Mexico all had one sole goal|: to prevent the continuation of the presidency of the country by the democratically elected President Evo Morales and the country's submission to American imperialism.

Latin America is swamped by mobilizations against the American puppets. In Chile for several weeks the people have been struggling in the streets against the regime. In Argentina chosen candidate of capital and the American Imperialists lost the elections. We also condemn the hypocritical attitude of the European Union, which indirectly supported the coup by failing to recognize the outcome of the elections in Bolivia.

The Cyprus Peace Council expresses its solidarity with the people of Bolivia and together with the World Peace Council stand on its side in its struggle for democracy and social justice, for the defense of its national sovereignty, for its inalienable right to decide democratically its own future and without foreign interventions and coup d’etats.
