RESOLUTION TO CONDEMN THE COUP D’ETAT IN VENEZUELA

We who have gathered today Monday, February 11, 2019, outside the Embassy of the United States of America in Nicosia, Cyprus, in the mobilization called for by the Cyprus Peace Council:
Condemn in the strongest way the act of recognition of the self-declared as alleged “interim president” by the USA and a number of other states including EU member-states. This act constitutes a flagrant violation of the UN Charter, an audacious intervention in the internal affairs of Venezuela – a member-state of the UN. It is tantamount to supporting a coup d’état to overthrow a legally and constitutionally elected government.
Denounce unequivocally the constant external intervention and measures of political, economic and social destabilization against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. This intervention aims at imposing a regime controlled by the US and convenient to their allies. The ultimate goal is to regain control over the largest c oil resources on the planet, as well as over other precious natural resources.
Condemn the plans of the US, as well as of their local and foreign allies, to invade Venezuela militarily. Any such intervention would cause long bloodshed in the country as well as in the broader region of Latin America. We denounce unequivocally these plans and we demand their immediate condemnation by the United Nations.
Condemn the US and EU decisions to pursue their sanctions policy against Venezuela and its people. These sanctions have already caused suffering to the country. We denounce the attempts to exploit the alleged “humanitarian crisis” in order to invade the country under the pretext of humanitarian assistance. We stress that the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and independent UN experts have stated that there is no humanitarian crisis in Venezuela.

We support the efforts to find a peaceful way out of the current situation through diplomatic channels and talks between the involved parties in the country without any foreign interventions. Only the Venezuelan people has the right to decide the course of its country's development.

We express our wholehearted solidarity with the Venezuelan people and the forces that are struggling defending the full respect of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Venezuela.

We call on the European Union to respect international law, to lift the sanctions against Venezuela and stop any interference in the internal affairs of the country.

The Cypriot Government must comply with international law, the respect for the UN Charter, and under no circumstances recognize the result of the attempted coup d'état.

Hands off Venezuela!
No more blood for oil!
