The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation welcomes the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the resolution that reaffirms the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to their independent State of Palestine.

The resolution emphasises the urgency of putting an end to the Israeli occupation and a fair, lasting and comprehensive peace agreement, based on the relevant United Nations resolutions, and stresses the need to respect and preserve the unity, contiguity and territorial integrity of the entire Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.

Affirming the right of all States in the Middle East to live in peace within secure and internationally recognised borders, the resolution reaffirms the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to their independent State of Palestine, and urges all States and specialised agencies and organisations of the United Nations system to continue to support and assist the Palestinian people in materializing their right to self-determination as soon as possible.

The resolution was adopted with 172 votes in favour, 10 abstentions and 4 votes against, namely from the US and Israel.

Once again, it was reiterated that the world stands with the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to their independent State of Palestine.

Once again, it is also clear that the United States of America is complicit in and supports Israel's brutal policy of occupation and colonisation in Palestine.

A US position, all the more unacceptable and deserving repudiation and condemnation, when Israel carries out crimes and massacres against the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, causing tens of thousands of deaths and injuries, most of them children and women. , the systematic destruction of neighbourhoods, medical infrastructure and UN agencies, as well as the imposition of a cruel and inhumane blockade that prevents the supply of water, food and medicine, as well as electricity and fuel.

As the CPPC has repeatedly stated: it is urgent to stop the massacre; there is an urgent need for a political solution to the Palestinian issue and to peace in the Middle East, which necessarily involves the end of occupation, settlements, Israeli oppression, and the guarantee of the national rights of the Palestinian people, as determined by international law and numerous resolutions of the United Nations!

Assembleia Geral da ONU reafirma direitos nacionais do povo palestiniano

O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação saúda a aprovação pela Assembleia Geral da ONU da resolução que reafirma o direito do povo palestiniano à autodeterminação, incluindo o direito ao seu Estado independente da Palestina.

A resolução sublinha a urgência de pôr fim à ocupação israelita e de um acordo de paz justo, duradouro e abrangente, com base nas resoluções pertinentes das Nações Unidas, e salienta a necessidade do respeito e preservação da unidade, contiguidade e integridade territorial de todo o Território Palestiniano Ocupado, incluindo Jerusalém Oriental.

Afirmando o direito de todos os Estados do Médio Oriente a viverem em paz, dentro de fronteiras seguras e internacionalmente reconhecidas, a resolução reafirma o direito do povo palestiniano à autodeterminação, incluindo o direito ao seu Estado independente da Palestina e insta todos os Estados e as agências e organizações especializadas do sistema das Nações Unidas a continuarem a apoiar e ajudar o povo palestiniano na realização quanto antes do seu direito à autodeterminação.

A resolução foi adoptada com 172 votos a favor, 10 abstenções e 4 votos contra, nomeadamente por parte dos EUA e de Israel.

Uma vez mais, foi reiterado que o mundo está do lado do direito do povo palestiniano à autodeterminação, incluindo do direito ao seu Estado independente da Palestina.

Uma vez mais, fica também claro que os Estados Unidos da América são cúmplices e apoiam a brutal política de ocupação e colonização por parte de Israel na Palestina.

Um posicionamento dos EUA, tão mais inaceitável e merecedor de repúdio e condenação, quando Israel leva a cabo crimes e massacres contra o povo palestiniano, particularmente na Faixa de Gaza, causando largas dezenas de milhar de mortos e feridos, na sua maioria crianças e mulheres, a sistemática destruição de bairros, de infraestruturas médicas e das agências da ONU, assim como a imposição de um cruel e desumano bloqueio que impede o fornecimento de água, alimentos e medicamentos, assim como de eletricidade e combustíveis.

Como o CPPC tem vindo a afirmar: é urgente parar com o massacre; é urgente uma solução política para a questão palestiniana e para a paz no Médio Oriente, que passa necessariamente pelo fim da ocupação, dos colonatos, da opressão israelita, e pela garantia dos direitos nacionais do povo palestiniano, conforme determinam o direito internacional e inúmeras resoluções das Nações Unidas!
