Letter to President Obama: Freedom to the three Cuban patriots
To Mr. Barack Obama
President of the United States
Mr. President,
Together with many social movements, academic, scientific and artistic personalities, and especially with renowned foreign jurists I come, as President of the World Peace Council, to request the immediate freedom of 3 Cuban citizens, unfairly arrested in the United States when they were protecting their country against terrorist attacks.
I refer to Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo e Ramón Labañino Salazar that were condemned in a process, which many jurists and international associations of lawyers and judges contested the methods used and the sentences, which include two life imprisonment. It was proved that they weren’t in the United States spying your country, but investigating an international gang, installed in Miami, which executed many terrorist attacks against civilians and common citizens. They were aiming exactly to save lives and defend Cuba against criminal attacks committed.
Since your first election, there is a great appeal that this injustice becomes repaired. It’s on your hands to do it. This gesture will be understood by peoples throughout the world as an attitude of search for respect and dialog with Cuba. By the exposed, we request the absolution of the 3 Cuban patriots that remain in the prison.
We wait sincerely for this signal toward a world of Peace and respect between peoples.
Socorro Gomes
President of World Peace Council
