The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) participated, between 21 and 23 July, at the Camp "Give Peace a Chance",
organized by the Platform for Peace and Disarmament - to which the CPPC belongs - held in Melides, Grândola.
The camp started on Friday afternoon, with hundreds of young people from all over the country arriving at the campsite, which was also the venue for the first night's entertainment.

The official opening of the camp began with the interventions of José Pinho, Secretary General of the Youth Association Projecto Ruído, Bruno Mateus, president of Melides civil parish and António Figueira Mendes, Mayor of Grândola. In the speeches, the festival "Give Peace a Chance" which took place 40 years ago, also in Grândola, was recalled.

The night continued with concerts by Ruth Marlene, Pedro Mafama and Bateu Matou.

Between enjoying the beach and other activities that took place during the day, Saturday (July 22) was marked by the great parade through the streets of Melides, where hundreds of young people affirmed the values of Peace and where it echoed "Peace yes! War no!", "Millions spent in wars and nothing to the youth". The parade ended at the “Festa da Fonte dos Olhos” which continued into the night.

On the last day of the camp, the CPPC was represented by Julie Neves, from the national board, in the debate that also counted on the participation of other organizations of the platform.

Once again the values of Peace were affirmed, rejecting militarism, the escalation of confrontation and war throughout the world, and the need to comply with the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic was affirmed.
The CPPC spoke about the work developed and to be developed, namely the III Meeting for Peace, inviting all present to participate.
The youth wants peace and not what war brings, and the camp was a great demonstration of this.

O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) esteve presente, entre os dias 21 e 23 de julho, no Acampamento "Dêem uma oportunidade à Paz", organizado pela Plataforma pela Paz e Desarmamento - à qual o CPPC pertence - e que se realizou em Melides, Grândola.
O acampamento teve início na sexta feira à tarde, onde centenas de jovens de todo o país foram chegando ao recinto do campismo, local que foi também palco da animação da primeira noite.
A abertura oficial do acampamento iniciou-se com as intervenções de José Pinho, Secretário-Geral do Projecto Ruído, de Bruno Mateus, presidente da Junta de Freguesia de Melides e António Figueira Mendes, presidente da Câmara Municipal de Grândola. Nas intervenções, recordou-se o festival "Dêem uma oportunidade à Paz" que se realizou há 40 anos, também em Grândola.
A noite seguiu com os concertos de Ruth Marlene, Pedro Mafama e Bateu Matou.
Entre praia e outras atividades que tiveram lugar durante o dia, o sábado (22 de julho) foi marcado pelo grande desfile pelas ruas de Melides, onde as centenas de jovens afirmaram os valores da Paz e onde ecoou "Paz sim! Guerra não!", "Para a guerra vao milhões para os jovens so tostoes". O desfile terminou no recinto da festa da fonte dos olhos que continuou noite dentro.
No ultimo dia do acampamento, o CPPC fez-se representar por Julie Neves, da direção nacional, no debate que contou tambem participação de outras organizações da plataforma.
Mais uma vez foram afirmados os valores da Paz, rejeitando o militarismo, a escalada de confrontação e da guerra por todo o mundo, e afirmou se a necessidade do cumprimento da Constituição da República portuguesa.
O CPPC falou do trabalho desenvolvido e por desenvolver, nomeadamente do III Encontro pela Paz, convidando todos os presentes a participar.
Os jovens querem a paz e não o que a guerra traz, e o acampamento foi uma grande demonstração disso.
