The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) strongly condemns the massacre by the Israeli occupation forces that resulted in more than 100 dead and 700 injured Palestinians when trying to access food aid in the city of Gaza.

This cruel crime was committed in a situation in which Israel has been imposing, for five months now, an inhumane blockade on the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip, making it impossible to access water, food, medicines, electricity and fuel, among other essential goods.

The dramatic food shortage imposed on the Gaza Strip by Israel has led, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Agency (FAO), more than half a million people into phase 5, the last, of food insecurity, considered "catastrophe", added to 1 million and 100 thousand (50% of the population) in phase 4, "emergency". The entire population, 2.3 million people, is in a food crisis.

It is precisely at the moment when hundreds of Palestinians were trying to access the scarce food aid that reaches the North of the Gaza Strip, that the Israeli military forces savagely murdered them.

This crime reveals the objectives and brutal action of Israel which intends to reoccupy the Gaza Strip, killing its population with bombings, shootings, hunger or disease or making their lives so difficult, to the point of forcing them to abandon the Gaza Strip never to return.

It is an indescribable horror, including the systematic destruction of hospitals and healthcare centres, schools, residential neighbourhoods, United Nations shelters, mosques and churches, and attacks on columns of refugees.

Israel's genocidal policy has resulted in more than 30,000 Palestinian deaths and 70,000 injuries.

Denouncing US support and complicity with Israel and its crimes – to whom it continues to sell weapons and allows the massacre to continue through successive vetoes of resolutions in the United Nations Security Council calling for a ceasefire –, the CPPC calls for an end to Israel's atrocities and crimes.

The CPPC reaffirms the demand for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the urgent entry of humanitarian aid in sufficient quantities to meet the huge needs of the Palestinian population, and the end of the blockade that Israel imposes on the Gaza Strip.

Likewise, the CPPC reaffirms the demand for the creation of a sovereign, independent and viable State of Palestine on the borders prior to June 1967, with its capital in East Jerusalem, guaranteeing the right of return of the refugees, as set down in several United Nations resolutions.

This is all what will be stated on March 6 at 18.00 at Rossio, in Lisbon, at the public act "Peace in the Middle East, independent Palestine!", which the CPPC promotes, together with the CGTP-IN, the MPPM and the Projeto Ruído - Youth Association.

No one should remain indifferent!

Há que parar o genocídio do povo palestiniano!

O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) condena veementemente o massacre que provocou mais de 100 mortos e 700 feridos palestinianos pelas forças de ocupação israelitas, quando procuravam aceder a ajuda alimentar na cidade de Gaza.
Este cruel crime foi cometido numa situação em que Israel impõe, desde há cinco meses, um desumano bloqueio à população palestiniana na Faixa de Gaza, impossibilitando o acesso a água, a comida, a medicamentos, a electricidade e a combustíveis, entre outros bens de primeira necessidade.
A dramática carência alimentar imposta à Faixa de Gaza por parte de Israel, provocou segundo a agência das Nações Unidas para a Alimentação e Agricultura (FAO), que mais de meio milhão de pessoas se encontre na fase 5 de insegurança alimentar, a última, considerada "catástrofe", a que acresce 1 milhão e 100 mil (50% da população) na fase 4, "emergência". Toda a população, 2,3 milhões de pessoas, está em situação de crise alimentar.
É precisamente no momento em que centenas de palestinianos procuravam aceder à pouca ajuda alimentar que chega ao Norte da Faixa de Gaza, que as forças militares israelitas barbaramente os assassinaram.
Este crime é revelador dos objetivos e da brutal acção de Israel que pretende reocupar a Faixa de Gaza, matando a sua população com bombardeamentos, a tiro, de fome ou por doença ou tornando a sua vida tão difícil, ao ponto de a forçar a abandonar a Faixa de Gaza para nunca mais voltar.
É todo um indescritível horror, incluindo a sistemática destruição de hospitais e centros de saúde, de escolas, de bairros residenciais, de abrigos das Nações Unidas, de mesquitas e igrejas, dos ataques contra colunas de refugiados.
A política genocida de Israel provocou já mais de 30 mil mortos e 70 mil feridos palestinos.
Denunciando o apoio e a cumplicidade dos EUA com Israel e os seus crimes – a quem continua a vender armas e a permitir a continuidade do massacre através de sucessivos vetos no Conselho de Segurança das Nações Unidas a resoluções instando a um cessar-fogo –, o CPPC apela a que se ponham fim às atrocidades e aos crimes de Israel.
O CPPC reafirma a exigência de um cessar-fogo imediato e permanente, da entrada urgente de ajuda humanitária em quantidade suficiente para suprir as imensas necessidades da população palestiniana, do fim do bloqueio que Israel impõe à Faixa de Gaza.
Do mesmo modo, o CPPC reafirma a exigência da criação do Estado da Palestina soberano, independente e viável nas fronteiras anteriores a junho de 1967, com capital em Jerusalém Leste, garantindo o direito dos refugiados a regressar, como consagrado em inúmeras resoluções das Nações Unidas.
É tudo isto que estará em causa no dia 6 de março às 18h00 no Rossio, em Lisboa, no ato público "Paz no Médio Oriente, Palestina independente!", que o CPPC promove, juntamente com a CGTP-IN, o MPPM e o Projeto Ruído - Associação Juvenil.
Ninguém deve ficar indiferente!
