Disengagement of Greece from the war slaughterhouse - Close the military bases of death
The Greek Committee for International Detente and Peace (EEDYE) emphatically denounces the dangerous escalation of our country's military involvement in the imperialist plans that are blood bathing the Middle East and bringing the risk of generalized conflagration ever closer.
The dramatic developments in Cyprus and the wider region, following the military attack by the US and Israel on Iran, impose here and now the disengagement of Greece from the war. Instead, the New Democracy government is escalating our country's participation step by step, maintaining military forces in Saudi Arabia and the Red Sea, proceeding with the dispatch of frigates and warplanes to Cyprus and turning Greece into an active part of the massacre.
The pretext of “strengthening the defense Cyprus” is a provocative mockery. The real role of the Greek forces is to protect the British bases on the island and the NATO infrastructure, that is, the same mechanisms that have supported and legitimized the Turkish invasion and occupation over time. This involvement does not serve the security of the people, but the geostrategic interests of the US, NATO and the EU.
At the same time, the cynical assumptions about Greece’s integration into France’s “nuclear umbrella”, as well as the references to the dangers faced by Greek military personnel and personnel of the Patriot missile battery in Saudi Arabia, constitute a confession that the government is putting the country behind the disastrous plans of the US-NATO forces, indifferent to the consequences.
As the government, with the long-standing strategic agreement of the other parties of EuroAtlanticism, grants bases, ports and airports as war bases – from Souda (in Crete) to Alexandroupolis (NorthEast) and Larissa (Central Greece) – and adopts the pretexts of the USA and Israel for the criminal attack on Iran, the risk of the Greek people becoming the target of reprisals increases.
EEDYE calls on the people and the youth to a militant uprising, demanding:
All foreign military bases and infrastructures should be closed now.
The Greek Patriot artillery should be immediately recalled from Saudi Arabia.
All frigates and warplanes that are outside the borders should return.
No participation – no facilitation to imperialist wars.
It is in the interest of our people to strengthen the struggle for the disengagement of Greece from the war slaughterhouse, so that the country does not become a base for war and a target for retaliation, so that the path of peace, friendship and solidarity of peoples may be opened.
