The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) vehemently condemns and demands an end to the US administration's obstruction of the participation of representatives of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority in the UN General Assembly session, taking place this month in New York. The decision not to grant visas to PLO and PA representatives not only demonstrates the United States' (USA) complicity in the genocide, occupation, and colonization committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, but also reveals its disrespect for the United Nations (UN), whose headquarters are located in New York.

It is worth remembering that Palestine is an observer member of the UN and, as such, representatives of the Palestinian people have the right to participate in the work of its General Assembly.

The CPPC reaffirms its solidarity with Palestine and its people and demands that the Portuguese government not only clearly denounce this illegal US measure, but also unequivocally condemn the genocide being carried out by Israel, unconditionally and immediately recognize the State of Palestine, and develop consistent initiatives aimed at the creation of a sovereign and independent State of Palestine within the pre-June 1967 borders and with Jerusalem as its capital, as well as the right of return for Palestinian refugees, in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.

Only then, with an end to the genocide, massacres, occupation, segregation, and colonization—made possible thanks to the support of the United Kingdom, the European Union, and especially the United States—will it be possible to realize the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people and ensure a just peace in the region.

CPPC exige fim à obstaculização por parte dos EUA da participação da OLP e da AP na Sessão da Assembleia Geral das Nações Unidas

O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) repudia com veemência e exige o fim da obstaculização por parte da administração norte-americana da participação de representantes da Organização para a Libertação da Palestina e da Autoridade Palestiniana na sessão da Assembleia Geral das Nações Unidas, que tem lugar este mês em Nova Iorque.

A decisão da não atribuição de vistos aos representantes da OLP e da AP não só demonstra a cumplicidade dos Estados Unidos da América (EUA) com o genocídio, a ocupação e a colonização cometidos por Israel contra o povo palestiniano, como é reveladora do seu desrespeito pela Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU), cuja sede está instalada em Nova Iorque. Recorde-se que a Palestina é membro observador da ONU e que, como tal, os representantes do povo palestiniano têm o direito de participar nos trabalhos da sua Assembleia Geral.

O CPPC reafirma a solidariedade com a Palestina e o seu povo, exige que o Governo português não só denuncie de forma clara esta ilegal medida dos EUA, como condene de forma inequívoca o genocídio que Israel leva a cabo, reconheça de forma incondicional e imediata o Estado da Palestina, e desenvolva iniciativas consequentes que visem a criação do Estado da Palestina, soberano e independente, nas fronteiras anteriores a junho de 1967 e com Jerusalém como capital, assim como o direito de retorno dos refugiados palestinianos, de acordo as relevantes resoluções da ONU.

Só assim, com o fim do genocídio, dos massacres, da ocupação, da segregação e da colonização – só possíveis graças ao apoio do Reino Unido, da União Europeia e especialmente dos EUA –, será possível concretizar os inalienáveis direitos nacionais do povo palestiniano e assegurar uma paz justa na região.
