On the Frustrated Terrorist Attack Against Cuba
Statement from COSPAZ (Spain)
Yesterday, a fast boat coming from Florida, USA invaded Cuban territorial waters in the province of Villa Clara and opened fire against an unit of the Cuban Border Guard troops that came to its encounter. The commander of the Cuban troops was injured, and four of the aggressors died as a result of the fight. Among the arms seized to the aggressors by the Cuban authorities, there were assault rifles, Molotov cocktails, short guns, camouflage uniforms, and so on. Everything leads to an operation led by anti-Cuban Miami groups aiming at committing terrorist attacks on Cuban territory in order to politically and socially destabilize the people of Cuba.
The COSPAZ denounce the connivance of the different US Governments with the anti-Cuban Miami terrorist groups as well as the protection and funding they have provided for decades to well-known criminals such as Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch in order to carry out terrorist actions on Cuban soil. What happened on February 25th in Cuban waters is framed within the line of harassment the Cuban people has been suffering for decades because of the anti-Cuban Miami mafia, which has cost the lives of more than 3,000 Cubans. We denounce the complicity of the international community with the terrorist activity against the Cuban Revolution promoted and funded in the United States. We would equally like to note the media manipulation implemented by Spanish mass media when dealing with the aggressions against Cuba. We can verify today the way facts are distorted through a selective and tortuous use of language whose only goal is to present terrorists as victims and the Cuban Revolution as an executioner. All of this has the intent to justify any action —even the military aggression— to make the Cuban people kneel before imperialists.
The Committees for the Solidarity between the Peoples and for Peace (COSPAZ) recognize the right of Cuba to defend its people against terrorist attacks by the anti-Cuban Miami groups. We denounce the aggressive intentions of US imperialism, which does not only violate international law by implementing a criminal blockade against Cuba for six decades and attempting to suffocate the Cuban people by blocking oil supplies. It also gives an economic and political coverage to the terrorist actions that seek the destabilization of the country and the region. The COSPAZ call on the ensemble of solidarity in our country, to workers, to students, to social, trade-union, and political organizations to double their solidarity with the Cuban Revolution.
