Representatives of organizations delivered an Open Letter on February 26th to the US Embassy,​​strongly condemning the US military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

In the letter, the 40 signatory organizations demand an end to the threats, interference, and aggression of the US against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as well as other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, such as Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Brazil. They call for the release of President Nicolás Maduro and Deputy Cilia Flores, urge compliance with the UN Charter and the principles of international law, and express solidarity with the struggle of the Venezuelan people and other peoples for their sovereignty and rights, particularly the right to live in peace.

The representatives of the organizations were not received, and the letter was delivered to the Embassy's reception desk.

Solidarity with the Venezuelan, Cuban, Palestinian, Sahrawi, and so many other peoples around the world who are victims of war, attacks, aggression, and blockades will continue with multiple initiatives and, starting now, with the demonstration "Peace, Sovereignty, and Solidarity! End the threats and aggressions of the US!" which will take place on March 14th, at 3 PM in Lisbon and Porto.

The military aggression of the United States of America against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Deputy Cilia Flores, deserve the strongest condemnation and constitute a clear violation of the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law.

How condemnable are the threats of military aggression or pressure on other countries, such as Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua or Brazil, which reveal the intentions of the US to impose its dominance over all of Latin America and the Caribbean and to exploit and plunder its resources.
For many years, the US, regardless of changes in its administration, has pursued a policy of interference and aggression – including the imposition of an economic blockade and the theft of assets – against Bolivarian Venezuela, which represents the defense of sovereignty and rights for the Venezuelan people, but also for the peoples of the whole world.

What the US wants is to install a government in Venezuela that would function as its puppet, in order to seize, once again, the immense natural resources of this country, which has the largest oil reserves in the world and is rich in natural gas, gold, fresh water and various rare minerals of great industrial use, jeopardizing its social and labor rights, its development and its sovereignty. This, and not any false and hypocritical claims about "democracy" or "drug trafficking," is what motivates the US with regard to Venezuela and other countries in Latin America.

Denouncing the attempt to whitewash and trivialize these unacceptable acts of interference and aggression in international relations, we demand respect for the principles of international law, enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, which recognize the sovereignty and rights of peoples, including the right to peace, development and the control of their resources, and which reject interference, aggression and war, including the imposition of unilateral coercive measures and the theft of resources.

Thus, the signatory organizations demand an end to the threats, interference and aggression by the US against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as well as other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean; they call for the release of President Nicolás Maduro and Deputy Cilia Flores; they urge compliance with the principles of international law; and they stand in solidarity with the struggle of Venezuelan workers and people and other peoples for their sovereignty and rights, particularly the right to live in peace.

Representantes de organizações entregaram, dia 26 de fevereiro, na Embaixada dos EUA, uma Carta Aberta de veemente condenação da agressão militar dos EUA à República Bolivariana da Venezuela.

Na Carta Aberta, as 40 organizações subscritoras exigem o fim das ameaças, da ingerência e da agressão dos EUA à República Bolivariana da Venezuela, assim como a outros países da América Latina e Caraíbas, como Cuba, México, Nicarágua ou Brasil, reclamam a libertação do Presidente Nicolás Maduro e da deputada Cília Flores, instam ao cumprimento da Carta da ONU e dos princípios do direito internacional e solidarizam-se com a luta do povo venezuelano e de outros povos pela sua soberania e direitos, nomeadamente pelo direito a viver em Paz.

Os representantes das organizações não foram recebidos tendo a Carta Aberta sido entregue nos serviços de portaria da Embaixada.

A solidariedade com os povos venezuelano, cubano, palestiniano, sarauí e tantos outros povos que no mundo são vítimas da guerra, ataques, agressões, bloqueios prosseguirá com múltiplas iniciativas e, desde já, na Manifestação Paz, Soberania e Solidariedade! A agressão militar dos Estados Unidos da América à República Bolivariana da Venezuela e o sequestro do Presidente Nicolás Maduro e da sua esposa, a deputada Cília Flores, merecem a mais veemente condenação e constituem uma clara violação dos princípios da Carta das Nações Unidas e do direito internacional.

Como condenáveis são as ameaças de agressão militar ou as pressões a outros países, como a Cuba, à Colômbia, ao México, à Nicarágua ou ao Brasil, que revelam as intenções dos EUA de imporem o seu domínio sobre toda a América Latina e as Caraíbas e de explorar e saquear os seus recursos.

Há largos anos que os EUA, independentemente de alterações na sua administração, seguem uma política de ingerência e agressão – incluindo com a imposição de um bloqueio económico e do roubo de activos – contra a Venezuela bolivariana pelo que esta traduz de defesa de soberania e de direitos para o povo venezuelano, mas também para os povos de todo o mundo.
O que os EUA pretendem é instalar na Venezuela um governo que funcionaria como sua marionete, para se apoderarem, de novo, dos imensos recursos naturais deste país, que tem as maiores reservas de petróleo do mundo e é rico em gás natural, ouro, água doce e diversos minerais raros de grande utilização industrial, pondo em causa os seus direitos sociais e laborais, o seu desenvolvimento e a sua soberania. É isto, e não quaisquer falsas e hipócritas alegações à “democracia” ou ao “narcotráfico”, que move os EUA no que concerne à Venezuela e aos outros países da América Latina.
Denunciando a tentativa de branquear e banalizar estas inaceitáveis ações de ingerência e de agressão nas relações internacionais, exigimos o respeito dos princípios do direito internacional, consagrados na Carta das Nações Unidas, que reconhecem a soberania e os direitos dos povos, incluindo à paz, ao desenvolvimento e a disporem dos seus recursos, e que rejeitam a ingerência, a agressão e a guerra, incluindo pela imposição de medidas coercivas unilaterais e o roubo de recursos.

Assim, as organizações signatárias exigem o fim das ameaças, da ingerência e da agressão dos EUA à República Bolivariana da Venezuela, assim como a outros países da América Latina e das Caraíbas; reclamam a libertação do Presidente Nicolás Maduro e da deputada Cília Flores; instam ao cumprimento dos princípios do direito internacional; e solidarizam-se com a luta dos trabalhadores e do povo venezuelano e de outros povos pela sua soberania e direitos, nomeadamente pelo direito a viver em Paz.
