The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) vehemently condemns the successive violations of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip perpetrated by Israel, which continues to bomb, kill and injure the Palestinian people and prevent the entry of humanitarian aid, which remains manifestly insufficient to meet the needs in a territory totally devastated by Israel's genocidal war, with basic infrastructure completely destroyed and subjected to a particularly severe winter.

Since the beginning of the ceasefire in October, Israeli occupying forces have killed more than 520 Palestinians and wounded nearly 1,500, bringing the death toll of Israel's genocidal policy to 71,800 Palestinians killed and 171,555 wounded since October 2023.

Israel doesn't only kill with bombs. There are approximately 20,000 sick people in the Gaza Strip awaiting authorization to leave the territory and receive adequate medical treatment. Gaza Strip health authorities report the deaths of at least 1,268 patients while awaiting permission to leave the territory. The announced opening of the Rafah border crossing, with pomp and circumstance, is in reality very limited and controlled by Israel.

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) denounces the complicit silence of governments, notably the Portuguese government, and major media outlets, which are using the ceasefire to "forget" the ongoing drama faced by the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip and, once again, to whitewash Israel's criminal policies in the illegally occupied Palestinian territories, in the Gaza Strip, as well as in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, where occupation, aggression, and the expulsion of Palestinian populations, the destruction of agricultural crops, and the construction of illegal settlements continue.

When the far-right minister, Bezalel Smotrich, states that "we will continue to kill the Palestinian state," not a single word is heard from the Portuguese government. On the contrary, this government remains complacent in the face of Israel's crimes, as demonstrated by the meeting between the Minister of Education and the Israeli Ambassador, in the context of the Portuguese official's participation in an Israeli-promoted initiative in Jerusalem on Artificial Intelligence, which Israel has been using in the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip. This is the same government that said nothing when an international delegation of teachers, including a Portuguese delegation from FENPROF, was prevented from entering the West Bank by Israeli occupying forces.

This is the time to maintain firm solidarity with the Palestinian people, who are fighting for their legitimate national rights, enshrined in successive United Nations resolutions, namely, for the establishment of the State of Palestine within the pre-June 1967 borders, with its capital in East Jerusalem, and the recognition of the right of return for Palestinian refugees. A legitimate and inalienable right that will only be possible to realize with the end of the occupation and its violent instruments. This, and not any foreign tutelage of a neocolonial nature, is what will be able to contribute to a just peace in the Middle East.

Fim ao genocídio! Fim à ocupação!
Pela concretização dos direitos nacionais do povo palestiniano!
Prosseguir a solidariedade de sempre!

O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) condena com veemência as sucessivas violações do cessar-fogo na Faixa de Gaza perpetradas por Israel, que continua a bombardear, a matar e a ferir o povo palestiniano e a impedir a entrada da ajuda humanitária, que continua manifestamente insuficiente face às necessidades, num território totalmente devastado pela guerra genocida de Israel, com as infra-estruturasolidarity that has always stood the same!s básicas totalmente destruídas e submetido a um Inverno particularmente severo.

Desde o início do cessar-fogo, em Outubro, as forças ocupantes israelitas mataram mais de 520 palestinianos e feriram perto de 1500, que elevam o saldo da política genocída de Israel para 71800 palestinianos assassinados e 171555 feridos, desde Outubro de 2023.

Israel não mata só com bombas. Há cerca de 20 mil pessoas doentes na Faixa de Gaza a aguardar autorização para sair do território e receber tratamento médico adequado. As autoridades de saúde da Faixa de Gaza denunciam a morte de pelo menos 1268 pacientes enquanto aguardavam autorização para sair do território. A anunciada abertura da passagem fronteiriça de Rafah, com pompa e circunstância, é na realidade muito limitada e controlada por Israel.

O CPPC denuncia o silêncio cúmplice de governos, nomeadamente do português, e das grande cadeias mediáticas, que utilizam o cessar-fogo para fazer “esquecer” o drama que continua a viver a população palestiniana na Faixa de Gaza e, uma vez mais, branquear a política criminosa de Israel nos territórios palestinianos ilegalmente ocupados, na Faixa de Gaza, como em Cisjordânia e Jerusalém Oriental, onde prossegue a ocupação, as agressões e a expulsão de populações palestinianas, a destruição de culturas agrícolas, a construção de colonatos ilegais.

Quando o ministro de extrema-direita, Bezalel Smotrich, afirma que “vamos continuar a matar o Estado palestiniano”, não se ouve uma frase que seja do Governo português. Pelo contrário, este continua complacente perante os crimes de Israel, como fica demonstrado pelo encontro entre o Ministro da Educação e o Embaixador de Israel, no contexto da participação deste governante português numa iniciativa promovida por Israel em Jerusalém sobre Inteligência Artificial, que Israel tem utilizado no genocídio em curso na Faixa de Gaza. Este é o mesmo Governo que nada disse quando uma delegação internacional de professores, que integrava uma representante portuguesa, da FENPROF, foi impedida de entrar na Cisjordânia pelas forças ocupantes israelitas.

Este é tempo de manter firme a solidariedade com o povo palestiniano, que luta pelos seus legítimos direitos nacionais, consagrados em sucessivas resoluções das Nações Unisolidarity that has always stood the same!das, isto, pela concretização do Estado da Palestina nas fronteiras anteriores a junho de 1967, com capital em Jerusalém Oriental, e o reconhecimento do direito de regresso dos refugiados palestinianos. Legítimo e inaliável direito que só será possível de concretizar com o fim da ocupação e dos seus violentos instrumentos. É isto, e não uma qualquer tutela estrangeira de recorte neocolonial, que será capaz de contribuir para uma paz justa no Médio Oriente.
