The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) repudiates and firmly condemns the further escalation in the aggression and economic siege of Cuba by the US, with the imposition of coercive measures on countries that sell or supply oil to Cuba, and expresses its solidarity with the Cuban people who have been fighting and resisting heroically, for more than 60 years, the criminal and illegal blockade imposed by the US, in clear violation of the UN Charter and international law, demanding and defending their right to sovereignty, development, and to live in peace.

This measure by the US is part of the attack, pressure and threats against the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, to seize their oil and natural resources and to prevent these peoples from exercising their right to sovereignty, development, and to decide their own destinies. The US military aggression against Venezuela and the kidnapping of its President are a good illustration of this purpose.

The new coercive measures imposed on Cuba violate international law, as they undermine the principles of sovereignty, self-determination of peoples, and freedom of trade, constituting a systematic violation of human rights, and are an undeclared war against the economy, society, daily life, and dreams of progress of millions of Cubans.

The CPPC will continue to denounce the attacks and threats from the US against Cuba, Venezuela, other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the world, demanding respect for international law and, in Portugal, that the government respect the Constitution of the Republic.
The CPPC will continue its solidarity action with the Cuban people, namely the Campaign For Cuba! End the Blockade! and the demand for an end to the aggression and threats from the US against Venezuela, Cuba, and the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The CPPC calls for the signing of the Open Letter to Trump “For Peace and Sovereignty! End US aggression against Venezuela! No to US threats against countries in Latin America and the Caribbean”, as well as participation in the protest and solidarity actions (which follow those already held this January in Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Évora, Setúbal and Grândola) called for February 3rd in Faro, at 5:30 pm in Largo Catarina Eufémia and in Porto, at 6 pm next to Brasileira.

Não a mais uma escalada na agressão criminosa e ilegal dos EUA contra Cuba!
Por Cuba! Fim ao bloqueio!

O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) repudia e condena firmemente mais esta escalada na agressão e cerco económico dos EUA a Cuba, com a imposição de medidas coercivas aos países que vendam ou forneçam petróleo a Cuba, e manifesta a sua solidariedade ao povo cubano que luta e resiste heroicamente há mais de 60 anos ao criminoso e ilegal bloqueio imposto pelos EUA, em clara violação da Carta da ONU e do direito internacional, exigindo e defendendo o seu direito à soberania, ao desenvolvimento, a viver em paz.

Esta medida dos EUA insere-se no ataque e ameaças aos povos da América Latina e Caraíbas, para se apoderarem do seu petróleo e riquezas naturais e para impedir o direito destes povos à soberania, ao desenvolvimento, à decisão sobre os seus destinos. A agressão militar dos EUA à Venezuela e sequestro do seu Presidente são bem ilustrativas deste desígnio.

As novas medidas coercivas impostas a Cuba violam o direito Internacional, pois atentam contra os princípios da soberania, da autodeterminação dos povos e da liberdade de comércio, configurando uma violação sistemática dos direitos humanos, e são uma guerra não declarada contra a economia, a sociedade, a vida quotidiana e os sonhos de progresso de milhões de cubanos.

O CPPC continuará a denunciar os ataques e ameaças dos EUA a Cuba, à Venezuela, a outros países da América Latina e Caraíbas e do mundo, exigindo o respeito pelo direito internacional e, em Portugal, que o governo respeite a Constituição da República.

O CPPC prosseguirá a acção de solidariedade com o povo cubano, nomeadamente a Campanha Por Cuba! Fim ao Bloqueio! e a exigência do fim da agressão e ameaça dos EUA à Venezuela, a Cuba e aos povos da América Latina e Caraíbas.

O CPPC apela à subscrição da Carta Aberta a Trump “Pela Paz e a Soberania! Fim à agressão dos EUA à Venezuela! Não às ameaças dos EUA a países da América Latina e Caraíbas”, bem como à participação nas acções de protesto e solidariedade (que se seguem às já realizadas neste mês de Janeiro em Lisboa, Porto, Coimbra, Évora, Setúbal e Grândola) convocadas para o dia 3 de Fevereiro em Faro, às 17h30 no Largo Catarina Eufémia e no Porto, às 18h junto à Brasileira.
