On January 27, 1945, exactly 81 years ago, the Red Army of the Soviet Union liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp. In this complex of concentration, extermination, and slave labor camps, like other similar camps, millions of people were murdered: political opponents, trade unionists, prisoners of war, Slavs, Jews, Roma, homosexuals, and people with disabilities.

On this occasion, it is important to remember the economic interests that sustained Nazi-fascism and its machine of war, terror, and death. The operation of the concentration and extermination camps was ensured by some of the most important German industrial and financial groups, and even by those from other Western countries, who also benefited from the slave labor performed by the prisoners.

81 years after liberation, the CPPC honors all those who were victims, resisted, fought and defeated Nazi-fascist barbarity, while also warning of the manifestations of xenophobia, racism and hatred that, fostered by far-right and fascist forces with obscurantist, retrograde and anti-democratic conceptions, are currently intensifying in several countries, including Portugal.

In the current international context marked by the instigation of confrontation and war, with the existence of several conflicts in the world and the serious risk of their escalation, which could jeopardize the right of peoples to live in peace and have increased and more serious consequences for all of humanity, the CPPC emphasizes that commemorating the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp is also to reaffirm the demand for respect for the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law, sovereignty and the rights of peoples, the urgency of defending world peace, not forgetting all those who gave their lives to conquer and defend it.
A defender of freedom and peace demands a permanent fight against fascism, militarism, and war – a commitment that has always been the CPPC's, which we renew today, acting side by side with all those who aspire to a better world, of peace and social progress.

Celebrar a libertação do Campo de Concentração de Auschwitz
– Defensor da Paz e da Liberdade, luta contra o fascismo

A 27 de Janeiro de 1945, há precisamente 81 anos, o Exército Vermelho da União Soviética libertou o Campo de concentração de Auschwitz. Neste complexo de campos de concentração, extermínio e trabalho escravo, tal como outros campos semelhantes, foram assassinadas milhões de pessoas: opositores políticos, sindicalistas, prisioneiros de guerra, eslavos, judeus, ciganos, homossexuais, pessoas com deficiência.
Nesta ocasião, importa recordar os interesses económicos que suportaram o nazi-fascismo e a sua máquina de guerra, terror e morte. O funcionamento dos campos de concentração e extermínio foi assegurado por alguns dos mais importantes grupos industriais e financeiros alemães e até de outros países ocidentais, que também beneficiaram do trabalho escravo realizado pelos prisioneiros.

81 anos volvidos da libertação, o CPPC homenageia todos quantos foram vítimas, resistiram, lutaram e derrotaram a barbárie nazi-fascista, alertando ao mesmo tempo para as manifestações de xenofobia, racismo e ódio que, fomentadas por forças de extrema-direita e de cariz fascista, com concepções obscurantistas, retrógradas e antidemocráticas, actualmente recrudescem em vários países, incluindo em Portugal.

No atual contexto internacional marcado pela instigação do confronto e da guerra, com a existência de diversos conflitos no mundo e o sério risco do seu agravamento, o que poderá pôr em causa o direito dos povos a viver em Paz e ter acrescidas e mais graves consequências para toda a Humanidade, o CPPC sublinha que comemorar a libertação do Campo de concentração de Auschwitz é também reafirmar a exigência do respeito pelos princípios da Carta das Nações Unidas e do direito internacional, da soberania e dos direitos dos povos, a urgência da defesa da Paz mundial, não esquecendo todos quantos deram as suas vidas para conquistar e defender.

Defensor da liberdade e da paz exige um combate permanente ao fascismo, ao militarismo, à guerra – um compromisso de sempre do CPPC, que neste dia renovamos, agimos lado a lado com todos quantos aspiramos a um mundo melhor, de paz e progresso social.
