The provocations and threats from the United States of America against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which openly violate the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law, are unacceptable and must be condemned. The extraordinary concentration of US military resources (considered the largest since the aggression by the US and its allies against Iraq in 2003) near the borders of Venezuela; the attacks against vessels and the murder of their crews; the belligerent provocations targeting Venezuela; the illegitimate attempt by the US to close Venezuelan airspace; the promotion of destabilizing actions, the open threats of military aggression and the ultimatums directed at Venezuelan leaders, undertaken by Donald Trump himself, President of the US – represent acts of intimidation and aggression that cannot be trivialized and that demand to be denounced and condemned. What the US wants is to defeat the Bolivarian process in Venezuela, which, over the past 25 years, has represented an example of resistance, sovereignty and national independence, the achievement of rights, including the right to development, cooperation and solidarity on the international stage, peace and a path of social progress – an example and path that the US does not want to accept and seeks to prevent. As the CPPC already pointed out on October 27, “what the US wants is to seize, once again, the immense natural resources of Venezuela, a country that has the largest oil reserves in the world and is rich in natural gas, gold, fresh water and various rare minerals of great industrial use. This, and not any false and hypocritical concerns about “democracy” or “drug trafficking”, is what motivates the US with regard to Venezuela and other countries in Latin America.” The CPPC recalls that the Portuguese Government is obliged to comply with the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, which in its Article 7 advocates for peace, non-interference and equality in relations between States, and is therefore required to take a firm stance condemning the threats of US military aggression against Venezuela, which, if carried out, would threaten the security of the Venezuelan people, as well as the large Portuguese community residing in Venezuela. The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) reaffirms respect for sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of States as principles. The fundamental principles of international law and healthy coexistence between countries and peoples are essential for safeguarding international peace and security. It is up to each people, including the Venezuelan people, to decide their own destiny and enjoy their resources for the benefit of their well-being and progress. The CPPC calls for solidarity with Bolivarian Venezuela, the Venezuelan people, and other peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, and reaffirms their right to peace, sovereignty, and development. The CPPC also calls for participation in the Public Act scheduled for the 16th at 5:30 pm, next to the Statue of Simón Bolívar, on Avenida da Liberdade, in Lisbon, under the slogan "Solidarity with the peoples of Latin America! No to US military aggression against Venezuela!".

Fim às provocações e ameaças dos EUA contra a Venezuela!
Solidariedade com os povos da América Latina!

As provocações e ameaças dos Estados Unidos da América contra a República Bolivariana da Venezuela, que violam abertamente os princípios da Carta das Nações Unidas e o direito internacional, são inaceitáveis e devem ser condenadas.
A extraordinária concentração de meios militares norte-americanos (apontada como a maior desde a agressão dos EUA e seus aliados ao Iraque, em 2003) junto às fronteiras da Venezuela; os ataques contra embarcações e o assassinato das suas tripulações; as provocações belicistas visando a Venezuela; a ilegítima tentativa de encerramento do espaço aéreo venezuelano pelos EUA; a promoção de ações de desestabilização, as ameaças abertas de agressão militar e os ultimatos dirigidos aos governantes venezuelanos, assumidos pelo próprio Donald Trump, Presidente dos EUA – representam atos de intimidação e de agressão que não podem ser banalizados e que exigem ser denunciados e condenados.
O que os EUA pretendem é derrotar o processo bolivariano na Venezuela que, ao longo dos últimos 25 anos, tem representado um exemplo de resistência, de soberania e de independência nacional, de conquista de direitos, incluindo do direito ao desenvolvimento, de cooperação e solidariedade no plano internacional, de paz e caminho de progresso social – exemplo e caminho que os EUA não querem aceitar e procuram impedir.
Como o CPPC já salientou, a 27 de outubro, «o que os EUA pretendem é apoderarem-se, de novo, dos imensos recursos naturais da Venezuela, país que tem as maiores reservas de petróleo do mundo e é rico em gás natural, ouro, água doce e diversos minerais raros de grande utilização industrial. É isto, e não quaisquer falsas e hipócritas preocupações com a “democracia” ou o “narcotráfico”, que move os EUA no que concerne à Venezuela e aos outros países da América Latina».
O CPPC lembra que o Governo português está obrigado a cumprir a Constituição da República Portuguesa, que no seu artigo 7.º pugna pela paz, a não ingerência e a igualdade nas relações entre Estados, pelo que se lhe exige um posicionamento de firme condenação das ameaças de agressão militar dos EUA contra a Venezuela que, a concretizarem-se, ameaçariam a segurança do povo venezuelano, assim como da numerosa comunidade portuguesa residente da Venezuela.
O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) reafirma o respeito pela soberania e a não ingerência nos assuntos internos dos Estados como princípios basilares do direito internacional e da sã convivência entre países e povos, essenciais para a salvaguarda da paz e da segurança internacionais. Cabe a cada povo, incluindo ao povo venezuelano, decidir do seu destino e usufruír dos seus recursos em benefício do seu bem-estar e progresso.
O CPPC apela à solidariedade com a Venezuela bolivariana, o povo venezuelano e demais povos da América Latina e das Caraíbas, e reafirma o seu direito à paz, à soberania e ao desenvolvimento.
O CPPC apela igualmente à participação no Acto Público marcado para o próximo dia 16 às 17h30, junto à Estátua de Simón Bolívar, na Avenida da Liberdade, em Lisboa, sob o lema “Solidariedade com os povos da América Latina! Não à agressão militar dos EUA à Venezuela!”.
