The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) denounces and vehemently repudiates the currently ongoing Israeli military operations to occupy Gaza City, as well as the plans to expand settlements, isolating East Jerusalem from the West Bank.

For anyone still in doubt, this makes clear what has long been evident and what the CPPC has denounced from the outset: the Zionist regime of Israel's concern is not, and never has been, the issue of Israeli detainees, but rather the intention to colonize the Gaza Strip and expel the Palestinian population from this territory, which is also Palestinian.

The situation in the Gaza Strip worsens with each passing day: bombings, attacks on hospitals, shelters, and schools continue, along with the systematic murder of Palestinian children, youth, the elderly, women and men, journalists, health professionals, and humanitarian workers.
The blockade on the entry of food, medicine, medical and hospital equipment, and fuel continues to kill babies, children, pregnant women, and the most vulnerable in general, through hunger and disease. Palestinians killed by Israel in the Gaza Strip number in the tens of thousands, including thousands upon thousands of children, along with many more injured and missing.

In the West Bank and Jerusalem, far from the media spotlight, the expulsion of Palestinian populations and the construction of settlements continues, stealing and colonizing more Palestinian land. A few days ago, the Israeli government approved the construction of new settlements in the E1 area, including thousands of housing units in and around East Jerusalem.

This plan, if implemented, will isolate East Jerusalem, which will be submerged in vast Israeli settlement blocs, increasingly placing the Palestinian population in disconnected enclaves.
The approval of this bill constitutes another step by the Israeli government in its illegal and criminal policy of colonization, annexation, forced displacement, and genocide, aimed at annihilating the just Palestinian national cause and denying the rights of the Palestinian people.

Reaffirming its long-standing solidarity with the Palestinian people's struggle for the realization of their national rights, the CPPC urges the Portuguese government to unequivocally condemn Israel's plans to continue the genocide and expand the colonization of Palestine, which constitute a heinous crime and a blatant disregard for the principles of the UN Charter and international law.

The CPPC also urges the Portuguese government to immediately recognize the State of Palestine under the terms defined by international law, that is, with the pre-June 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital, along with the reaffirmation of the right of return of Palestinian refugees. The recognition due to the State of Palestine cannot be dependent on unacceptable external impositions on matters that are the responsibility of the Palestinian people and their sole sovereign decision. Recognition of the State of Palestine would place Portugal on the right side of history, precisely the side enshrined in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic.

The Portuguese government's recognition of the State of Palestine must be accompanied by clear and active action to end the genocide of the Palestinian people, ensure unconditional access of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population, and ensure the creation of the State of Palestine, as enshrined in international law, including in numerous UN resolutions.

Não aos planos de Israel de continuação do genocídio
e de alargamento da colonização da Palestina

O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) denuncia e repudia veementemente as operações militares israelitas, atualmente em curso, para ocupar a cidade de Gaza, bem como os planos para ampliar os colonatos, isolando Jerusalém Leste da Cisjordânia.

Para quem ainda duvidasse, fica assim claro o que é há muito evidente e que o CPPC denuncia desde o primeiro momento: a preocupação do regime sionista de Israel não é, nunca foi, a questão dos detidos israelitas, mas sim a intenção de colonizar a Faixa de Gaza e expulsar a população palestiniana deste território, também ele palestiniano.

A situação na Faixa de Gaza agrava-se a cada dia que passa: continuam os bombardeamentos, os ataques contra hospitais, abrigos e escolas, o sistemático assassinato de crianças, jovens, idosos, mulheres e homens palestinianos, de jornalistas, profissionais de saúde e trabalhadores humanitários. O bloqueio à entrada de alimentos, medicamentos e equipamento médico e hospitalar, de combustíveis, continua a matar de fome e de doença bebés, crianças, grávidas e, em geral, os mais vulneráveis. Os palestinianos mortos por Israel na Faixa de Gaza contam-se às dezenas de milhar, incluindo milhares e milhares de crianças, a que acrescem muitos mais feridos e desaparecidos.

Na Cisjordânia e em Jerusalém, longe das atenções mediáticas, prossegue a expulsão de populações palestinianas e a construção de colonatos, roubando e colonizando mais terras da Palestina. Há dias, o governo de Israel aprovou a construção de novos colonatos na área E1, incluindo milhares de unidades habitacionais dentro e em redor da Jerusalém Leste. Um plano que, se for por diante, isolará Jerusalém Leste, que ficará submergida em enormes blocos de colonatos israelitas, colocando cada vez mais a população palestiniana em enclaves desconexos. A aprovação deste projecto constitui mais um passo do governo de Israel na sua ilegal e criminosa política de colonização, anexação, deslocação forçada e genocídio,com o objetivo de aniquilar a justa causa nacional palestiniana e negar os direitos do povo palestiniano.

Reafirmando a solidariedade de sempre com a luta do povo palestiniano pela concretização dos seus direitos nacionais, o CPPC insta o Governo português a condenar inequivocamente os planos de Israel de continuação do genocídio e de alargamento da colonização da Palestina, que constituem um hediondo crime e frontal desrespeito dos princípios da Carta da ONU e do direito internacional.

O CPPC insta igualmente o Governo português a reconhecer de imediato o Estado da Palestina nos termos definidos no direito internacional, ou seja, com as fronteiras anteriores a junho de 1967e capital em Jerusalém Leste, acompanhado da reafirmação do cumprimento do direito ao retorno dos refugiados palestinianos.

O reconhecimento que é devido ao Estado da Palestina não pode estar dependente de inaceitáveis imposições externas sobre questões que cabe ao povo palestiniano e só a ele decidir soberanamente. O reconhecimento do Estado da Palestina colocaria Portugal do lado certo da história, precisamente aquele que se encontra plasmado na Constituição da República Portuguesa.

O reconhecimento do Estado da Palestina pelo Governo português deve ser acompanha de uma clara e ativa acção em prol do fim do genocídio do povo palestiniano, do incondicional acesso da ajuda humanitária à população palestiniana e da criação do Estado da Palestina, como consagra o direito internacional, incluindo em inúmeras resoluções da ONU.
