The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation strongly condemns the bombings carried out by the United States of America against Iran, in violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. The US involvement in the new escalation of the war initiated on the 13th by Israel is further evidence of the deep complicity that unites the two countries in the destabilization of the Middle East. The US attacks constitute a dangerous militaristic escalation in the region, which must be stopped and reversed—which will only be possible through negotiations. The CPPC recalls that it is Israel, not Iran, that possesses undeclared nuclear weapons—thus shielding it from the responsibilities inherent in possessing such weapons and from the oversight of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Prime Minister Luís Montenegro's statements, once again echoing the rhetoric of Israel and the US regarding these countries' aggressions against Iran, are regrettable and place Portugal once again on the wrong side of history, in conflict with the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic. The CPPC once again demands that Portugal ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

Não à confrontação e à guerra! Pela Paz no Médio Oriente!
O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação condena veementemente os bombardeamentos perpetrados pelos Estados Unidos da América contra o Irão, à revelia do direito internacional e da Carta das Nações Unidas.

O envolvimento norte-americano na nova escalada de guerra iniciada no dia 13 por Israel é mais um testemunho da profunda cumplicidade que une os dois países na desestabilização do Médio Oriente. Os ataques norte-americanos constituem um perigosa escalada militarista na região, que urge travar e inverter - o que só será possível com negociações.

O CPPC recorda que é Israel, e não o Irão, que possui armas nucleares não declaradas - ficando assim a salvo das responsabilidades inerentes à posse deste tipo de armamento e à fiscalização da Agência Internacional da Energia Atómica.

As declarações do primeiro-ministro Luís Montenegro, seguindo novamente a retórica de Israel e dos EUA sobre as agressões destes países ao Irão, são lamentáveis e colocam Portugal uma vez mais do lado errado da história, em confronto com a Constituição da República Portuguesa.

O CPPC volta a exigir que Portugal ratifique o Tratado sobre a proibição de armas nucleares.
