CPPC condemns Israeli attacks against Iran

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) strongly condemns this morning's Israeli attacks against Iran, carried out in blatant disregard for international law, and warns of their extreme gravity and possible consequences.

Israel is the main factor of destabilization in the region: it illegally occupies Palestinian territories and commits genocide in the Gaza Strip; it bombs and occupies territories in Lebanon and Syria; it bombs and attacks Iran; it systematically disregards international law, as was also seen recently with the capture of the ship Madleen, of the Freedom Flotilla, in international waters.

The unacceptable impunity that Israel enjoys is due to the military, economic and diplomatic support of the United States and the main powers of NATO and the European Union, which are complicit in the genocide of the Palestinian people and the warmongering adventurism that threatens to set the entire Middle East on fire.

For decades, Israel has been the spearhead of the interests of these major Western powers in a region rich in energy resources and of great geostrategic importance. Israel is the only country in the Middle East to possess nuclear weapons, although it does not admit it, so as not to have to comply with the rules governing the possession of this type of weapon.

Using the possibility that Iran could develop nuclear weapons as a pretext for these attacks is not only false: it is above all hypocritical. The CPPC demands that the Portuguese State unequivocally condemn these attacks, take firm action to end the systematic violation of international law and aggression on the part of Israel, to end the genocide of the Palestinian people and the occupation of Palestine, and for the immediate recognition of the State of Palestine within the borders prior to June 1967, with its capital in East Jerusalem and the guarantee of the right of return for refugees – as enshrined in several United Nations resolutions.

The CPPC asks everyone to participate in today's vigil, the 13th, in Porto (at 9pm, at Praça General Humberto Delgado), in the public event on the 17th in Setúbal (at 10am, at Avenida Luísa Todi, next to the bandstand) and in the demonstration on the same day, the 17th, in Lisbon (at 6pm, from Largo Camões to the Assembly of the Republic), promoted in partnership with the CGTP-IN, the MPPM and the Projeto Ruído.

CPPC condena ataques de Israel contra o Irão

O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) condena firmemente os ataques israelitas desta madrugada contra o Irão, realizados em frontal desrespeito pelo direito internacional, e alerta para a sua extrema gravidade e eventuais consequências.

Israel é o principal fator de desestabilização na região: ocupa ilegalmente territórios da Palestina e comete um genocídio na Faixa de Gaza; bombardeia e ocupa territórios do Líbano e da Síria; Bombardeia e ataca o Irão; desrespeita sistematicamente o direito internacional, como se viu também, recentemente, com a captura do navio Madleen, da Flotilha da Liberdade, em águas internacionais.

A inaceitável impunidade de que Israel goza deve-se ao apoio militar, económico e diplomático dos EUA e das principais potências da NATO e da União Europeia, que são cúmplices do genocídio do povo palestiniano e do aventureirismo belicista que ameaça incendiar todo o Médio Oriente.
Israel assume-se desde há décadas como ponta de lança dos interesses dessas grandes potências ocidentais numa região rica em recursos energéticos e de elevada importância geoestratégica.
Israel é o único país do Médio Oriente a possuir armas nucleares, embora não o assuma, para não ter de se submeter às regras que regem a posse deste tipo de armamento. Usar a possibilidade do Irão poder vir a desenvolver armas nucleares como pretexto para estes ataques não é apenas falso: é sobretudo hipócrita.

O CPPC exige do Estado português a condenação inequívoca destes ataques, uma ação firme para pôr fim à sistemática violação do direito internacional e agressividade por parte de Israel, para pôr fim ao genocídio do povo palestiniano e à ocupação da Palestina e para o reconhecimento imediato do Estado da Palestina nas fronteiras anteriores a junho de 1967, com capital em Jerusalém Oriental e a garantia do direito ao regresso dos refugiados – como se encontra consagrado em diversas resoluções das Nações Unidas.

O CPPC apela à participação de todos na vigília de hoje, 13, no Porto (às 21h00, na Praça General Humberto Delgado), no ato público de dia 17 em Setúbal (às 10h00, na Avenida Luísa Todi, junto ao coreto) e na manifestação do mesmo dia 17, em Lisboa (às 18h00, do Largo Camões para a Assembleia da República), promovidos em parceria com a CGTP-IN, o MPPM e o Projeto Ruído.
