World Peace Council attended multiple events in Dhaka/Bangladesh

On the occasion of the centenary birthday of the father of the Bangladesh Nation Bangabundhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the 50th anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh an international peace conference was organized on 4-5 December by the Foreign Ministry in which dozens of international personalities, scientists and friends of Bangladesh participated. Amongst them a twelve (12) member delegation of the World Peace Council headed by its Executive Secretary Iraklis Tsavdaridis. The delegation of the WPC was composed by representatives of the Peace Movements from Cyprus, USA, Canada, Italy, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Palestine, Lebanon, Greece, Japan and Bangladesh, which attended the events with numerous delegates. During the official welcome event on the eve of the Conference, the WPC Executive Secretary handed over a commemorative plaque to the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh A.K. Abdul Momen with which the WPC congratulated the people of Bangladesh for the important anniversaries and thanked the honorable Minister for the hospitality. The WPC reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Bangladesh as it has always done since the victorious liberation struggle and recalled the historical moment when the leader of the WPC Romesh Chandra awarded Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1973 with the Juliot Curie Medal of Peace. The chief guest at the opening ceremony of the Conference was the President of the Republic Abdul Hamid while the closing session of the International Conference was attended by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
