We join the refugees in solidarity and struggle!

Thursday, June 22, 2017

On this International Day of Refugees, we join millions of people who are victims of war, humanitarian disasters, colonialism or military occupation, persecution and the constant threat to their lives, who depart in search of refuge leaving their homes, countries and often families. The World Peace Council joins their demand for attention and commitment, responsibility and action in their protection, in guaranteeing their human rights and in promoting their physical and psychological integrity in the search for security and survival.

We join their repeated denunciation and courageous cry against the hypocrisy of bureaucratic leaders who govern countries or international institutions that often share some of the responsibility for the suffering of tens of millions of women, children, the elderly, men and young people who posit their hopes in international solidarity. We therefore reaffirm the commitment and principles that guide us in the struggle against imperialism, which is driven by war, threat, exploitation, of which the UN today estimates that 65 million people are victims. In addition, we have repeatedly and emphatically denounced the xenophobic policy that has guided the actions of most European countries and the US, who prefer to build walls and limit the number of people they receive instead of fulfilling their commitments to humanity, to protect the vulnerable.

The World Peace Council reinforces its statement of solidarity with the refugees, which was adopted at our Assembly in November 2016, on this and every day. We honor the bravery and endurance of these millions of human beings and we join in their revolt by the way they are treated in too many countries, many of them responsible for their condition. We also support the demand of more and more people in this situation for a space in the international forums for their active participation, so that they can represent, deepen and strengthen their struggle for dignity and their most fundamental human rights, including the right to life and to a future in safety. We therefore strengthen our determined struggle against wars and oppression, threat and xenophobia, omission and neglect!
