US Peace Council's Response to Election of Trump

Saturday, November 26, 2016

The US Peace Council issued an open letter and a report about the election of Donald Trump as the president of the United States of America. Below you can find the letter, and attached you can find the report.

To Those Who Struggle for Peace and Justice

Dear Friends:

The election of Donald Trump has created deep concern and apprehension in our ranks. Our response is that all forces for peace and justice, peace activists, trade unionists, anti-racist and
immigrant rights organizations, women, students must come together. overcoming sectarian and partisan differences, in a united front for OUR common program for peace, justice and human needs!

We realize fully that every day, for EIGHT years, of the Obama-Kerry-Clinton administration, our country has been at war, foreign wars, for regime change, global dominance and exploitation of natural resources. We realize that those policies have absorbed 57% of the national wealth, destroying our economy and devastating the lives of millions. These policies have DISTORTED the political atmosphere, attempting to pit worker against worker, White against Black, native born against foreign born. Globalization, the search for the lowest wages and benefits, has destroyed the living standards of millions of workers.

Our response, yours and ours, is to come together in organization, demonstrations, vigils, in all forms of protest, for an end to a foreign policy of wars, a serious reduction of the military
budget and domestic policies for creating jobs and meeting human needs This is the answer to the election of Donald Trump.

See you in the streets.

Yours in peace,
Alfred L. Marder
President
