The World Peace Council expresses its profound rejection to the escalating threats against the sovereignty of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and expresses its militant solidarity with the people of Venezuela, the anti-imperialist peace forces and in particular with the Comittee for International Solidarity (COSI). The recent provocations of US President Trump, coordinated with the local oligarchy and reactionary opposition, constitute a flagrant violation of the principles of the UN Charter and a gross interference in the internal affairs of Venezuela. The ongoing economic war of the capitalists and the sanctions threatened to be imposed on the country and its people from abroad, are aiming at the further destabilization of the economy and at the suffering of the people. The initiative to call for the election of a Constituent Assembly on 30th July,is the sovereign right of the people and its legitimate end elected government. The WPC expresses the desire of many millions of peace loving people in the world who fight against imperialism for a world of peace and social justice, that the new Constituent Assembly will open ways for the deepening of the changes for new achievements for the people and by the people of Venezuela.
We denounce the forces who trigger and promote from inside and outside the country, chaos, destruction and terror. We denounce in particular the hypocrisy of the European Union and its governments who support directly or indirectly the same reactionary forces, as they have done in the Coup d’Etat in April 2002 while daring to set “democratic standards” for the Venezuelan people.
We join our voices and our struggle with the people of Venezuela, with the peoples of Latin America for the right to determine their own path so that they will become masters of their fortunes and of the wealth of their countries.
