Global Action Day in Solidarity with Venezuela

Friday, April 22, 2016

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation, joins the Global Action Day in Solidarity with Venezuela, celebrated today, saluting the International Solidarity Committee of Venezuela and the other popular Venezuelan forces that defend the important progressive advances achieved in the Bolivarian Revolution namely the sovereignty and independence of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela confronted with foreign interference and aggression.

In this day of solidarity with the Venezuelan people and with Venezuela, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation reaffirms the demand for the end of the destabilizing action of the USA against this country.

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation renews the demand to revoke the USA's executive order – aproved in March 2015 and recently extended by Barack Obama – that, in an inadmissible way, considers Venezuela as an “unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States” and aplies sanctions against Venezuela.

Demanding the immediate revocation of the executive order and the end of the interference against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation, recalls the more than 14 million people that one year ago signed a petition with this just demands.

Faced with the operation of interference against Venezuela – interference that extends to other Latin America and Caribbean countries - the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation that it is not Venezuela but the USA that for more than 100 years have treated Latin America as “backyard”; It is not Venezuela but the USA that are responsible for dozens of coups and military interventions in Latin America; It is not Venezuela but the USA that maintain douzens of military bases in this subcontinent; it is not Venezuela but the USA that reactivated their Fourth Fleet; it is not Venezuela but the USA that maintain for more than half a century a cruel blockade against Cuba, that is criticized by the quasi totality of countries in the World; it is not Venezuela but the USA that have taken war to multiple countries in several continents, with its crimes and human suffering; it is not Venezuela but the USA that promote the arms race and the rise of military spending. Venezuela does not pose a threat to any country, but the USA do!

The defence of Peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean demands the respect for the sovereignty and independence of the States and the end of imperialist interference.

In this day of solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and with the Venezuelan people, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation reaffirms its firm commitment with the defence of the sovereignty and independence of Venezuela and with the inalienable right of the Venezuelan people to follow its freely chosen route free from foreign interference of any kind – a principle enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
