End to the aggressive US action against Cuba

Tuesday, May 9, 2023

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) repudiates the recent decision by the US
Administration, led by Joseph Biden, to maintain Cuba on the “list of states” that, arbitrarily and
hypocritically, claims to be “sponsors of terrorism”.

It should be recalled that the infamous decision to include Cuba on the so-called "list of states sponsoring
terrorism" was taken by Donald Trump, at the end of his term, and that Biden, despite promising to
reverse it during his presidential election campaign, not only failed to fulfil his promise, but also
supported Trump's decision.

This is an illegitimate unilateral measure taken by the US that seeks to worsen the criminal blockade that
it imposes against Cuba and its people, including its extraterritorial nature.
A cynical decision taken by the US, a country that is known to create, finance and arm terrorist groups,
with whom it promotes interference and destabilisation against other countries, including Cuba, the target
of numerous acts of terrorism perpetrated by groups with ties to the US.

The CPPC draws attention to this and other unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US against
several countries, which the present US Administration has not only maintained, but also intensified,
worsening the path of disrespect and affront to international law.
Cuba is a recognised example of solidarity at international level, as seen in the policies of cooperation and
friendly relations with other peoples, namely, providing assistance to victims of natural disasters or other
tragedies, as witnessed by the many brigades of doctors sent by Cuba to several countries in the world.
The times we live in demand the mobilisation of solidarity with just causes.

The CPPC calls for solidarity with Cuba and its people, for the demand for the immediate withdrawal of
Cuba from the so-called US “list of states sponsoring terrorism”, for the demand for the immediate end of
the criminal blockade that the US imposes against Cuba.
Like any other people in the world, the Cuban people have the sovereign right to pursue the path they
have chosen for their country.
