AIPSO statement On the developments in Iraq

Wednesday, June 25, 2014

The All India Peace & Solidarity Organisation expresses serious concern over the sharply deteriorating conditions in Iraq, which is under threat from the brutal and sectarian ISIS forces. After capturing big cities such as Mosul in the North and the border areas between Iraq, Syria and Jordan, these forces are now advancing towards the capital city of Baghdad.

Whole world knows that the ISIS and other terror outfits were organised and patronized by the American imperialists and their allies such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc., to support a sectarian and fundamentalist rebellion against the secular Bashar al-Assad government in Syria. This is a continuation of the US policies in Iraq, after its invasion and occupation, where they divided the country on Shia and Sunni lines. Their actions are creating a global polarization on sectarian lines within the Muslim community. Such policies will have very serious implications for the peace and stability of a number of countries in different parts of the world.

The AIPSO is seriously concerned about the fate of over 20,000 Indians including construction workers, nurses and others stranded and abducted in war-raged Iraq.

The AIPSO urges upon the Union government to take appropriate steps utilizing all means and resources to arrange for the safe return of the Indians in Iraq.

The AIPSO calls upon all its units to organize protest actions against the conspiracies of US imperialists to spark world wide sectarian discord, attempting to divide the state of Iraq and to express support and solidarity for the Indian citizens in Iraq.
